Augmented Driving App Reviews

Very cool!

Needs your phone to be securely mounted to windshield, I bought a mount by Rocketfish. It senses the road and cars and lanes flawlessly! Good for long drives it will alert if cars too close or when changing lanes! Very cool app but like I said really needs secure mount where front camera lens can see the road. I love it!!

Pretty good

Does what it says with surprisingly good accuracy provided it is in a stable mount.

Joke

Sat for 5 min didnt detect cars or lanes on a busy interstate. Apparently thinks Im speeding... 63 on a 65. Weird. And the voice. I couldnt find a way to shut the pig up. I want to listen to music. Never again in my life.

Ideas is there, needs work

Good: The app does what it is suppose to do. Tracks lanes, tracks lane departure, tracks speed (and preset speeding option), tracks cars and distance in front of you (for the most part). Bad: Interface really clunky, hard to really use without presetting it up and getting all the options done before ever getting in the car, and several trips to really get the setting how you prefer it. Very unintuitive gestures to do certain things, and very hard to understand labeling and features. What you get is really a very interesting program and you get something that bigger more luxury high-end cars get for a fraction of the price. The down side is that it doesnt all always work, its clunky and very unintuitive. I really think its an over all brilliant idea, That it can detect your lane (although it may take some time), and then tell/warn you when you are about to depart from it, can tell you that the car in front of you is X amount of distance away (although not always super accurate, but gives you a decent estimate), and that it will even notify you if the car in stop and go traffic in front of you is pulling away. Doesnt always work well at night, wont work on dark highways, but in the city where there are good lighted streets will still pick up the lanes on occasion, but the vehicle tracking, and the app dealing with the camera autofocus (should set focus fixed in the middle) probably causes some problems with the apps abilities. Now that interface, you get these series of "panel" like option pages, that gets you to set it up, you can estimate the cars height and width, obviously the more accurate you are the more accurate the program will track for you. Then you get these series of gestures, swiping down to get to the voice/noise/color page where you can customize how you are warned when you get to a certain things, if you make the wrong gesture, there is a brief flash in the screen of gestures that you can perform. Here is where you wish you can just have the normal iPhone app setup of actual menus and buttons rather than this strange setup. Then there is exiting the option menu by double tapping… really makes it a hard thing to get to certain things… I guess the whole menu was designed supposedly around so you can do everything in the app while driving without really needing to focus in on touching buttons. I found out to change your "speeding" warning sign is to slide your finger in the middle of the screen while it is viewing the street (now i know it would have to have a database to get the actual speed limit of the road you are driving on, but that could be a cool feature). In this new version the author added the feature to record video while you drive, the actual record button now records video, before you could double tap the screen and it would take a screenshot. It looks pretty could playing it back on your computer with the hud displaying everything, the lane tracking, the vehicle tracking, the warnings and stuff, but the only way to get to the videos is hooking it up to iTunes and downloading them from the apps section, and then there is no real way to delete the videos besides deleting the whole app… talk about cumbersome. The video quality isnt the best either, not 1080p, definitely smaller, but thats probably because they would be massive if you went on a longer drive. All in all, this program delivers on what it promises, lane assist/departure, with vehicle tracking, but because of its clumsy interface and lackluster polish really makes it much less friendly to use. It is a fun toy, thats all it is, and if the developer works on the interface, I think it could be something very fun to use as an everyday driving tool. This app is definitely unique enough for a try, but be warned, its probably not going to the the most useful app youve come across.

Let us!

Please let the owners of the ipad2 wifi only download augmented driving!! We can tether it to the gps signal in the iPhone and it works great with apps like "a smart HUD HD" and especially MotionX GPS HD for the iPad. I just it. I see no reason why YOUR program wont, at least not let us ipad2 wifi only users download it even. Please fix this so all of the many more wifi only ipad2s out can tether and see your beautiful program on the big screen. It will probably generate a lot more sales!! Charlie

Whats the problem?

I think the app is great. The developers are pretty forthcoming about the fact that it is a work in progress. That said, it does what it claims to do, and I think it is pretty dang cool. I am 37, and if you had told me fifteen years ago that I would have a phone capable of doing this while I drive down the road I wouldnt have believed you.

What a cool app! I cant believe it works so well!

This is one of the coolest apps on my phone. It is using a live video feed and performing lane and vehicle detection on the fly!

Almost 5 Stars

This is impressive. Its almost there, and Im certain will get better. Very cool and useful for late night driving to keep you in check.

Update

The dev pushed an update for a iOS6 bug, but not the iPhone5 screen? Im confused.

Could be Great!! Whyyyyyyyyyy???

Simple problem, please fix.. My phone mount blocks the front camera using your default orientation.. Please allow 180 degree screen flip. Thanks!!

Cool app

Just needs to calibrate faster. It would be awesome if someday tom-tom the GPS company bought you out so then you could have GPS information overlaid also even better would be to have I COBRA support for radar detector as well as the GPS. Could you imagine both being incorporated?

Great app; could be better

The speed limit doesnt update anymore and the app needs is some quality and efficiency updates. Hopefully the camera can be more clear and have a higher FPS. The app causes the device to become very warm due to its high CPU usage. It would also be nice for the app to export screenshots and videos to the Camera Roll or provide a way to access them in-app.

Good.

Please, with next app update add date y:m:d and live time h:m:s in the top or bottom of the screen please. Would be a professional record in case of the car accident.

Waste of money

The program causes my iphone 5 to overheat after a few minutes of use, causing the device to go into a degraded lower clock speed mode. Even before that, however, the performance is not very good. Warnings are too often false-positives, with the program becoming an annoying and useless clang of bells and beeps. This is a useless gimmick, not a useful program like some of the other HUDS out there

Does not work

Does not work. Will not calibrate.

Calibration issue

Not able to calibrate no matter where I mount

Great App

Even though Ive had this app since version 1, it still doesnt get old to use or show off... Its way better than the other options out there too. Sometimes you need a little patience with calibration but once you get it, this app is gold.

3 stars for potential

Very cool app, have enjoyed it for years, but still needs more.. It accuses me of speeding when I do more than 33mph in a 55 zone, and I cant find an option to tell it the actual speed limit. Also I like how it takes pictures, but 66 pictures in 10 minutes is too much. I think there should be many more options.. Also a tab to show people where to swipe to get to the options screen, take lessons from other apps out there. All in all I like it, but still not living up to its full potential.

Great app but

I drive a work truck this app has a hard time finding the road. It does a great job at recording. What exactly is the Zoom for? I cant make anything out.

Great App

This is an excellent app. Works as described and built. It has improved my driving tremendously with distance and awareness. It is well worth the price and works very consistantly, once you get the calibration down. The tutorials are excellent and a must.
